Dana Beth (Wilder) Redfern

Services for Dana Beth Redfern, 93, formerly of Hideaway, Texas, are scheduled Friday March 23, 2018 at 12:30 pm at Hiett’s Lybrand Funeral Home in Edgewood, Texas, with family visitation starting at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Dana Beth Wilder was born in Edgewood April 25, 1924, and graduated from Edgewood High School as class valedictorian.  She then moved to New York City where she met her future husband, Reg Redfern.   

Beth, Reg, and their three sons resided for many years in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and Lahore, West Pakistan. Later Beth and Reg lived in Tripoli, Libya and Tehran, Iran before settling down in their beloved home in Hideaway in 1975. In 2015 Beth, now a widow, moved to Austin to be closer to her family.

Beth embraced her worldwide moves with aplomb, with family trips to Europe, Sri Lanka, Japan, Hong Kong, and much of the Middle East. She also took several solo trips to the Holy Land, Petra, Guatemala and Israel.

Beth’s passions were gardening and golf.  She was president of the Hideaway Women’s Golf Association, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, led Awana classes and faithfully attended Hideaway Church.  She will be missed for her gentleness, kindness to all, and her loving heart.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband Reg in 1997. Survivors include sons Francis, Alan, and Richard; grandchildren Richard Jr., Stephanie, Jesse, and Clancy; and great-granddaughter Lexie, the apple of her eye.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
